Photo of the Week: Halong Bay

One of Vietnam’s wonders is Halong Bay.  Nestled just a short drive from Hanoi, the limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different weather conditions.  Now a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site, Halong Bay was on the top of my list when I passed through 5 years ago.  Almost always hazy the soft light helps define the depth of the area.

Photo of the Week: Cactus Garden

In the heart of Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA lies this very strange Cactus Garden.  The tiny needles on each tree capture the sunlight and appear to almost glow.

Photo of the Week: California Dreaming

As the sun was setting over the Pacific Ocean I captured this image from Baker Beach in San Francisco. I was there to take photos of the Golden Gate Bridge as the last rays of light hit it but when I turned around to see the sunset I noticed this amazing orange glow on the horizon against the purple and blue of the water. It was only for a fleeting moment but it was worth it.

Photo of the Week: Burning Liquid

2 weeks ago I was in Los Angeles.  One of the things I love about LA, is the fact that the sun sets over the ocean.  Growing up on the east coast of Australia, I only ever got to see sunrises over the ocean, so whenever I see the sunset over the ocean it gives me a happy feeling.  For this photo, I wanted to capture the amazing colours that afternoon reflecting in the water giving it a metallic quality.

Fresh from Tofino

A quick look at a shot from Eric Whipp’s Tofino shoot on Vancouver Island, BC.

This stump-like piece of driftwood caught my eye on the beach in Tofino.  In the golden light of sunrise, I waited until the tide reached the rustic stump and the ocean began to swirl around it.  I used a long exposure to add a softness to the water and to bring out the reflection of the clouds in the water.

Photo of the Week: Brooklyn Bridge

Walking underneath the Brooklyn Bridge at dusk I spotted these old wooden posts beside the pier. They create great contrast in texture against the smooth water.

Photo of the Week: Bare Forest

As the eerie fog rolled in yesterday morning, I headed down to Ashbridges Bay Park.  This bare forest with the foggy lake behind it, creates strong contrast between the dark leafless branches and the soft sky.
